Andy P’s Immunotherapy Story

Prostate Cancer |  Diagnosed 2014

Immunotherapy is a new and lasting treatment for cancer.

Andy’s Story

Faced with a diagnosis of advanced prostate cancer in November 2014, Andy and his wife Johanna searched for treatment options. When Andy’s cancer did not respond to chemotherapy and hormone therapy, Andy and Johanna traveled from their home in California to Texas for surgery followed by an immunotherapy clinical trial of ipilimumab (Yervoy®) at MD Anderson Cancer Center. His oncologist, Dr. Sumit Subudhi said that Andy had one of the best responses to immunotherapy, reflecting with his team, “this is why we do what we do.”

Andy passed away in September 2019 after a long battle with cancer. Immunotherapy extended his life for over three more active and happy years with his family.
